We Need One Another

Probably most of us who preach have delivered sermons, series, or special messages focusing on the “One Another” passages in Scripture. We have encouraged the people who hear us to “love one another,” to “build up one another,” to bear “one another’s burdens,” and to “forgive one another.” All of these, as well as so many others, need to be and should be preached.

One of my struggles in preaching over the years has been how easy it is for me to tell everybody else what they need to do and be, yet how challenging it is for me to think about what I need to do and be myself.

The older we become and the more of life we encounter, the more this particular truth becomes evident. We need one another! Preachers need other preachers. We need preachers who “get it.” We need brothers who are in our season of life who understand what we are dealing with right now.

We need “more seasoned” preachers who can share with us how they have survived ministry and how they have dealt with the uniqueness of what we do. These men are not perfect, and if they claim to be, or if they act like they are, we should run away fast.

We need some younger men in our lives who will help keep us young, fresh, and up-to-date on what the world is like now. We can also pour some of what we’ve learned into their lives. We should never do this in an arrogant or condescending kind of way, but with grace and humility.

We are always better, and life will always be more enjoyable when we can walk side by side with others who can share the journey of life with us. If you are feeling alone today, reach out to someone. Remember, “two are better than one!”
