About: The minister will be responsible for preaching on Sunday mornings, teaching bible classes as assigned, conducting personal bible studies as needed, visiting as needed, and supporting congregational activities. The successful candidate will work with an active Eldership and congregation. Since the congregation was formed in 1986, we have been served by five preachers, all retired or moved to be near family. Our current preacher will continue to serve as an Elder and mentor to the new candidate if needed. We value our congregation as a close family. We have recently focused on growing our youth to service and community outreach. While we appreciate experience, we also value those growing and seeking a work. Other information about the church can be found at http://rmchurchofchrist.com. We would like our candidate to begin as soon as possible but we can work with a starting date that is mutually convenient.
Expected Duties: Recognizing that the ministry to the lost is not the sole responsibility of the Minister but rather the duty of all Christians, the following duties are the minimum expected as a paid full time Minister to the Church, some of which may not be met during special circumstances when Brethren are voluntarily taking the role instead, such as speaking or during Gospel Meetings. The Brethren of the Church at Rocky Mount recognize the role of the Evangelist-Minister as one of evangelizing and proclaiming the Gospel. To that end, we pledge to handle the financial affairs, repairs and operational aspects of the facility in order that our Minister may best utilize his time. We encourage the Minister to utilize us to accompany him on visitation and in bible studies. 1. Absent weather closings or authorized absences, the Minister shall preach (1) one sermon per week. (Sunday morning worship service) 2. Absent weather closings, or authorized absences, the Minister shall be prepared to teach (3) three public assembly bible classes per week, to include one Sunday morning adult bible class, one Wednesday evening adult bible class and one Sunday evening adult bible class. Any of these may be taught by a male volunteer without violating the conditions of the scope of work. (We encourage our men to participate in these ways.) 3. The Minister shall be at the public assembly no later than 15 minutes prior to the starting time of scheduled services and shall remain to greet attendees after the service, excluding emergencies or other known approved changes. 4. The Minister of the Church at Rocky Mount shall set aside a suitable time weekly (2-4 hours) to visit members and non-members in hospitals/nursing homes or at home sick, whether known to the Church or not, and shall visit any persons in the hospital or sick at home if requested to do so. 5. The Minister shall set aside designated “office hours” in the Church office. Barring justifiable absences for need, he should be in the office a minimum of 4 hours, three days per week (These should include one morning and one afternoon and the other may be set by the minister.) Should late visits and other emergencies prevent adherence to these hours the Minister will notify one of the Elders, as soon as practical of the situation giving rise to the office hours exclusion. 6. Set up and engage in regular in-home bible studies. Additionally correspondence courses may be set up and the congregation tapped to assist in grading of the courses, as chosen and assigned by the faithful men of the congregation. 7. Visit or reach out with a contact via other means, any non-member local resident (County or Town) within one week of their visiting any service of the Church at Rocky Mount. 8. Visit the funeral home when a member’s family has died or as requested. 9. Be available for emergency and other counseling. The Minister shall not visit a member of the opposite gender without the accompaniment of his spouse or another as a witness. 10. Acquaint themselves with other area Ministers through the men’s retreat, camp, Gospel Meetings or personal outreach/introduction. 11. Be in regular contact with other local congregations to remain in unity. 12. The Minister, working with other faithful men in the Church, shall exercise Church discipline as set forth in the scripture when members are found to be in need of such discipline. 13. Conduct yourself in an orderly and Christian like manner at all times, being aware of appearances in the community. Congregational Work The Minister is expected to spend (40) forty hours per week in congregational work. While occasionally it may be necessary for the Minister to provide care for their child or pick up their sick child from school and bring them to the church during work hours, this shall not be a regular practice. He will dedicate his efforts toward office time, lesson preparation, evangelism, visitation, and bible studies. He is welcome to seek additional support from other congregations on his own, and that will not impact his compensation or work in the Rocky Mount congregation. Any reports to the additional supporting congregation shall be his sole responsibility and should not impact his full-time position or work in the Rocky Mount congregation.
