About: Blackman church of Christ in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, seeks a preacher. Sunday morning attendance is about 20. The congregation desires to appoint elders; until then, congregational decisions are made by the men at monthly business meetings and reported to the congregation. The minister is accountable first to God and then to the church and its membership.

Responsibilities: Preach Sunday morning and evening sermons and offer the Wednesday evening devotional or invitation. No biblical topic is off-limits when grounded in and supported by Scripture. Teach at least one Bible class weekly on Sunday, Wednesday, or as otherwise needed. A quarter off from teaching is available if enough teachers can cover the classes. Assist with teaching plans, VBS, and special events.

Help identify and lead evangelism, outreach, and edification opportunities within the congregation and community. Build relationships with other Middle Tennessee congregations. Visit the sick and their families, hospitals, shut-ins, widows and widowers, nursing homes, and members who attend irregularly or have stopped attending. Follow up with visitors and provide confidential spiritual counseling. Assist with the church sign and social media.

Attend monthly business meetings and fellowship gatherings, conduct and/or attend weddings and funerals, and provide weekly bulletin articles.

Compensation: Salary is $550 per week. Evaluations every six months will consider performance, contributions, and membership numbers when discussing future pay and benefits, including possible attendance at lectureships. Educational materials, books, and periodicals are reimbursable up to $150 annually with receipts. Weekly salary continues when illness prevents the minister from performing his duties.

Benefits and Terms: Two weeks of paid vacation per year, not exceeding two Sundays and two Wednesdays in a 12-month period, begin after three months of employment. Vacation does not carry over from year to year. Plan it one month in advance and obtain approval from the men of the congregation until elders are appointed.

Up to one week per year, including a Sunday, is allowed for a mission trip. When a guest speaker or associate minister is speaking and the minister has no other responsibilities, he may visit another congregation with approval from the men until elders are appointed.

The minister is responsible for all applicable federal and state taxes, including income, Social Security, and Medicare taxes. Neither the minister nor the church may terminate the agreement without at least 90 days’ written notice.
