Description: Youth Minister Purpose Statement To lead 6th-12th graders into discipleship of Jesus by investing in their lives, cultivating a love of knowing God through Bible study and spiritual disciplines, and partnering with their parents to help them build healthy relationships and make wise choices. Reports to: Director of Youth Ministries Character Expectations: ● Of Good Reputation ● Loving/Nurturing ● Accessible and Relatable to the Youth ● Teachable ● Intentional ● Self-Motivated ● Team Player ● Invested in Youth and Family Growth Knowledge Expectations: ● Clear understanding of the Gospel and Jesus’ Ministry ● Must have the ability to affectively communicate the path to salvation as taught in scripture ● Well-versed in God’s Word ● Must have an appreciation for the world the students live in and challenges that they face Responsibilities: Minister to Youth – 6th - 12th Grade (60%) ● Collaborates with the Director of Youth and Senior Minister to create strategies, select curriculum, and set objectives for Youth Ministry ● Creates weekly phase-appropriate youth environments including but not limited to large group environments. ts, classes, and various small groups ● Speaks in different environments about 30-36 times per year ● Creates 4-6 events and 1-2 off-site retreats per year ➔ This will also include involvement with Camp Wetoga ● Monitors the spiritual health and discipleship development of all youth participants through personal relationships and feedback from volunteers and families ➔ This includes meeting with school teachers and coaches to understand better each kid’s behavior outside of the church environment ● Heavily involved with the Union County School System ➔ Such as the mentoring program Leadership (20%) ● Recruits, enlists, and develops volunteers for all phase-appropriate youth environments and events ● Will update the Youth Ministry Team at least once per month ➔ Director, Deacon, and Elders ● Meets one-on-one with any other teachers, coordinators, and other key volunteers 3-4x per year to seek and offer feedback and to provide guidance for the next season ➔ Such as meeting with children’s class teachers to ensure a smooth transition when students graduate into the Youth Class (6th-12th) ● Provides training and direction to seasonal youth ministry apprentices ● Casts vision for parents about the objectives and strategy for youth ministry ● Equips parents with discipleship resources for their families ● Connects with each family unit at least 4x per year to check in and offer support Other (20%) ● Remains available to minister and serve youth, parents, and volunteers ● Assists the Director of Youth Ministries in developing an annual budget for Youth Ministry, and maintains the budget throughout the year ● Oversees the updating of all group data, background checks, and youth ministry policies and procedures ● Participates in staff development, training, and leadership meetings ● Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Youth Ministries Work Schedule Works during regular office hours Tuesday–Friday and Sundays 40 hours/week - The job will come with housing in a home right next door to the church building.
