A Reminder to Focus on Him

As we prepare for Sunday each week, we will always thrive more if we focus on Jesus and others rather than focusing on ourselves. The reality of life is that the more we focus on ourselves, the less fulfilled we will be.

Some people call it the Elijah Complex. Others call it pride, arrogance, or narcissism. It causes all kinds of problems, whatever you name it. 

Spiritually speaking, it’s the idea that I don’t need the Lord. It also has the potential to create within one’s heart the notion that I am the only one serving God and everybody else has bowed the knee to Baal. 

It’s the attitude that I’m the only preacher or church leader encouraging others, and I alone can save them. It’s the thought that the Church can’t survive without me. If we are not careful, we will develop a spirit that says we don’t need Jesus; we can do it alone. 

Many men of God around the world love the Lord, serve Him faithfully, and encourage those who need it. 

Preachers, we need to remember that the Church's success is not based on our abilities or gifts. In all probability, the Church where we are serving was doing fine before we arrived, and it will do fine when we are gone. The more we focus on Him, the more likely we are to fight through difficult seasons.

Thank God for men around the world, many in remote, out-of-the-way places, who continue to serve Him and one another with a spirit of humility! Thank God for His men who will stand and preach His Word to His people in just a few days, while giving Him all the glory!
