Above the Noise

So much noise, everywhere! All the talking heads are loud and distracting. Is it possible that we find ourselves in a position where we cannot hear the Word of our Loving Father?

Even as preachers, we can become so polarized and enamored with certain voices, people who agree with us, that we are unable to hear His voice?

Is it possible that we preachers have become so divided generationally because we listen only to people in our generation? We boldly defend (in sermons and posts) the “wise” speakers/authors who view the Scriptures and the Church the way we do. We adamantly oppose those who haven’t risen to our level of education or sophistication as being unlearned or spiritually immature.

Are we so busy fawning over the wisdom of our favorite preachers and authors that we have created an environment where we cannot hear God's wisdom? It is the height of arrogance to think that our voice or the voice of any human is equal to the wise voice of God.

Isn’t our Father loving enough, creative enough, and wise enough that even as we listen to the surrounding voices, we should hear His voice above all others?

Maybe we do need more dialogue among preachers/teachers. Maybe we should hear what others have to say, but please, my brothers, don’t allow the voice of ANY man, no matter how wise we deem him, to have preeminence over or drown out the voice of the One who makes us whole!

May God help us to hear His voice above the noise, as He proclaims, “Be still, and know that I am God.” May His voice bring peace to our hearts when they are troubled. May His voice keep us strong when we are weak, and keep us working for Him, even in the most wearisome of days.
