Events, circumstances, our jobs, and even people can cause us to take our focus away from what matters most. We will better survive the difficulties and trials of this life when our focus is on Jesus. Jesus is not just the best way for us to thrive in this world, He is the only way for us to live with real peace in our hearts.
Jesus came so that we might enjoy the Abundant Life. He provides rest for our troubled heart. Jesus can mend broken homes, broken lives, and broken hearts. We can cast all our cares on Him. Jesus forgives our past, makes our present worth living, and secures our future.
The question is not will life throw the unexpected at us from time to time. As preachers, this will happen not only to the people we serve, but it will also happen in our families. It will happen in our personal life.
The question is how will we handle it when we get a bad report, when we lose somebody close to us, when a family member or close friend disappoints us, when we lose our job or have to relocate, when we become discouraged, depressed, or down-hearted? Will we be able to focus on Jesus.
We all learn in time that life happens, that disappointments occur, that the unexpected comes our way. There may be times that we feel prepared and at other times feel totally lost. If Christ is our King we can always turn to Him. Life is best when we are close to Him during the good days of our life so that it is not out of character for us to turn to Him when life becomes difficult. If you are struggling with life today, my prayer is that you will be able to keep your heart focused on Him.
