It isn’t always easy to be discerning. It is not always easy to show wisdom. It is not always easy to act graciously toward others. However, each of these traits is worth the effort as we relate to the people around us. We should regularly and consistently pray that God will give us a spirit of discernment, wisdom, and graciousness. In these difficult days, our family, our friends, and even our foes need to see a discerning mind. They need to see wisdom which is from above, and a gracious heart from the people who are followers of Jesus!
One factor that can keep us from being discerning is doubt. Doubt is something that everybody deals with at times in life. The real problem with doubt is that it can grip us and paralyze us. If we allow doubt to become consistent, it can cause us to lose our faith, the joy we have in Jesus, and to turn our back on Him.
At times, preachers have doubts about their marriage, their children, their work, their finances, their health, their faith, their convictions, the Church, the Word of God, or even their Lord? If you have doubts today, please don’t try to bear them alone; allow others to help. You have preaching friends and brethren who can listen. They can walk with you through pain and doubt.
Better still, we can turn them over to Jesus. He invites us, if we are carrying heavy burdens and doubts, to come to Him, to allow Him to give us rest for our weary souls! What a tremendous blessing, what a wonderful promise, what an amazing Savior!!
