It had been a challenging few days. It was the monthly anniversary of my sweet wife’s passing. There was a Grief Seminar to present that weekend, and then there was a minor surgery we had put off too long. To put it lightly, I was not feeling well, physically or emotionally.
The phone buzzed, and I picked it up. A preaching friend in Texas was calling to ask for help with a church looking for a preacher. By the way, if you are interested in considering moving to work with a church (in Texas) with great potential, please reach out to me.
As we were about to hang up, my friend said, can we have a prayer together. He had no way of knowing how much that meant to me at that moment. His words encouraged me, gave me peace, and strengthened me.
Although there have been occasions when speaking on the phone with a preacher, we have prayed together; this particular moment was much needed and appreciated.
This call got me thinking, we have several thousand preachers who read these thoughts each week. What if each one of us made a commitment every Monday to call another preacher and have a prayer with him?
It might be a friend we know is in need of a special prayer, or another preacher we don’t even know very well. We never know the difference we can make in someone else’s life or the impact for good it might have on the Kingdom. It could also be a blessing to us.
So, thanks, John. Love you, brother. You encouraged me during a difficult time, and your example has given me the motivation to reach out to someone else. What about you, my preaching brothers? Let’s give it a try. Maybe even today!
