During the past couple of weeks, it has been a privilege to spend some time with several different groups of preachers. During this time, it was a privilege to meet a couple of young preachers I had never met before.
It was a rich blessing to sit and visit with these two outstanding young men and learn their “stories.” They grew up under completely different circumstances. Their educational journeys could not have been more different. One is working with a large church in a huge metropolitan area. The other is working with a small (but growing) church in a very small burg.
However, they both love the Lord and His Church with all their heart. They both have a strong desire to see the church family they serve grow in number and spiritually. They are both young and hungry to learn more.
My life was greatly encouraged by sitting and visiting with them. I will be better for my time with them. We exchanged contact information and committed to staying in touch.
They both asked if they could contact me from time to time. I can’t tell you how much that thrills me. Now there are two more young preachers to add to the list who need another mentor, another encourager, and another preacher in their corner.
Here are two things, brothers. There are hundreds, maybe thousands more, just like these two young men. It doesn’t matter how old you are, or how young you are; there is always someone a little younger who needs you.
The second thing is also huge. These young men will encourage us. The two young preachers I met within the past few days have already encouraged me. This is the kind of relationship that can keep us going; they can keep us engaged and might keep us from quitting. If you feel discouraged today, find another preacher to encourage you. It will bless his life and it might just bless yours more!
