There are times when life seems overwhelming. We have deadlines to meet. People to counsel. Sermons to prepare. Bible classes that need to be planned. Events to be scheduled. Committees that need our attention. Visits to be made. Then there are family concerns. We need to keep working to strengthen our marriage. The kids have numerous activities. We need to ensure that we instill in their hearts and lives the values that are important to us. Then there is our personal life. I need to lose weight, exercise regularly, find some downtime, engage in spiritual study for personal growth, and get some rest.
WOW! And, that’s just Monday!! So, how do we process all of that as we seek to do work that is pleasing to the Lord? How can we ensure that we are ministering properly to those who have been entrusted to us? How do we ensure that we will not forsake our families?
When life seems overwhelming and our schedules feel impossible, it can become easy to become discouraged, to question the validity of our work, and even to emotionally, and sometimes physically, check out.
Perhaps one way to help this is to reassess our lives. Ask ourselves some critical questions. Who and what are our priorities? Where are we spending time that could be spent more effectively in another way? Is our schedule causing us to neglect our marriage, our children, and our walk with God? Is there someone I trust who can offer wise counsel on these thoughts?
One other suggestion is to revisit our purpose and our mission. Why did we choose to work in God’s Kingdom in the first place? Have we forgotten why we do what we do? Can we spend a little more time in prayer, asking our Father to help us gain clarity in our walk and work for Him?
