And I thought of You
This is in no wise designed to be political but as I listened to snippets of Pete Hegseth’s speech for the military a few days ago I could not but feel how proud he seemed of those who chose to serve in the military. And, correspondingly how I think I would have felt if I heard it and was in the military. Like him, his politics, or even the military or not, it was truly inspirational. In his speech, Hegseth said: “You are different. We fight not because we hate what's in front of us. We fight because we love what's behind us - family, nation, and values. You see, the Ivy League faculty lounges will never understand us. And that's okay, because they could never do what you do. The media will mischaracterize us. And that's okay, because deep down they know the reason they can do what they do is you.” He went on to emphasize that this sense of duty is about cherishing and protecting what we hold dear.
As I listened I thought of you!
That sentiment perfectly applies to what you do as a preacher. Just as a soldier stands out of love, you who preach the Word of God stand before your congregation because of a love that runs just as deep. You’re not just delivering sermons; you’re a guardian of hearts and a shepherd of souls.
And when you stand up this Sunday, don’t forget who’s in front of you—but definitely don’t forget who is above you and who is behind you. Preach the Word knowing that you bless many more lives than you ever realize. As you prepare your heart and your message, remember that your love for those you serve is a reflection of God’s love for them. We are proud of you. Don’t quit.
Eph 6:10 - Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.
