“WHY AM I HERE?”

It was a brief acceptance speech, but it was one of the most moving, heartfelt speeches I’ve ever heard. A friend sent it to me, I didn’t hear it live, or see it live, but I will see it and hear it again.

Gerda Weissmann Klein, Holocaust Survivor and subject of Best Documentary Short Subject "One Survivor Remembers" spoke deeply about her freedom.

Unlike others she did not push any social agenda and her speech was not an exercise in self-aggrandizement.

The question that Klein raises in the following comments is one that every Christian should ask.

“…I have been in a place for six incredible years where winning meant a crust of bread and to live another day. Since the blessed day of my liberation I have asked the question, ‘Why am I here…?’”

Why am I here?

Some are here to make a fortune.

Some are here to become famous.

Some are here to become President or CEO of the company.

Some are here to show others their abilities.

Some are here to create havoc, unrest, and confusion in our world.

Some are here to show the Love of God to others.

Some are here to be leaders in the church.

Some are here to make the world a better place to live.

Some are here to share the burdens that others carry.

Some are here to show children the way.

Some are here to strengthen young people and families in the church.

Some are here to give to others.

Some are here to encourage those who are hurting.

Some are here to comfort the broken hearted.

Some are here to let the light of Jesus shine in this dark world.

Some are here to lift up the hurting in prayer.

Some are here to help feed the hungry.

Some are here to help heal the sick.

Some are here to discover, invent, and create.

Some are here to love those who are broken.

Some are here to equip the saints.

Some are here to preach the Word to the church and the lost.

Some are here to teach those who do not know Jesus.

Some are here to show the way.

Some are here to glorify God.

Some are here to help us learn how to endure suffering as a Christian.

Some are here to show what it means to be a servant.

Some are here to remind us of what it means to live for Jesus.

Some are here to teach us how to die.

Some are here to teach us how to live.

Some are here to teach us how to love.

Why are you here?

Dear Father, help us to find our place in this world. Help us dear Lord to make sure that we understand Your purpose for our lives. Thank You for sending Jesus to show us the way. In His Wonderful Name we pray, Amen.
