Do you ever feel tired, worn down, worn out, or fatigued? A lot of people seem to be throwing around the word fatigue these days. Fill in the blank by inserting a word before you say ‘fatigue’. The name of a politician, organization, sports franchise, a type of weather, athlete, actor, music artist, influencer, or any one of seemingly thousands of “causes.”
You know what I never hear the word fatigue associated with in our vocabulary? I never hear anyone talk about Jesus Fatigue or Gospel Fatigue. And that’s why it’s so crucial for those of us who preach to spend more time talking about Jesus and the Gospel than anything or anyone else.
Jesus is the opposite of fatigue. Jesus is rest. He brings calm in the midst of chaos. He calls us to rest. He invites us to rest in Him. You’ve spoken the words many times. “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
The Gospel is everything that fatigue is not. It is the Gospel of Peace for a world, a nation, a church, a family, or even a heart filled with war. It is the Good News amidst all the bad news.
So preacher friend, are you tired of being fatigued? So are your people. What if, even for a short time, we took a break from discussing all the matters that cause fatigue? What if we spent some time focusing on Jesus? He is our only real hope for peace in our world and in our lives.
