One of the questions we should periodically ask ourselves is, “How do we define who and what we are as servants of the Most High God?” Often times, as humans, we allow one event, one experience, one situation, or even one crisis define us.
If we trust God completely, if we believe He is Sovereign, and if we are convicted that He will care for us, we will never allow ourselves to be defined by one experience, one difficulty, one challenge, or even one crisis. We will not let who we are, our personality, our future decisions, and even our present actions to be shaped by a “defining” experience or event.
The Lord would want us to know that life is a series of events rather than just one. As followers of Jesus, our goal should always be to allow Him to define and shape the character of our lives.
It is easy to allow the mundane and the mess of the world take control. It’s easier to work hard to create our own image of who we want to be than to allow Him to live through us. But brothers, when we do that, we will constantly be pushing ourselves and everything will become about us and our image. It is easier to put ourselves on a pedestal so that everyone will know us, rather than allowing Him to have the throne of our hearts and lives, so that everyone will know Him.
It’s not about who we are, it’s about whose we are, it’s about who He is, and it’s about what He is helping us to become through every stage or even every crisis in life! It’s about allowing Him to use us for His glory rather than our glory. May God bless you this week and bring comfort to your heart as you live to honor His Name!
